August 2019.  There are many capital projects going on throughout the Village, totaling approximately 5.3 Million.  All of these projects reflect Kenmore's on-going efforts to invest in our buildings and infrastructure.

Work is nearing completion at the Kenmore Community Center.  This project included a full asbestos removal, new HVAC, a new roof,  new energy-efficient windows, LED lighting and the installation of new handicap-accessible bathrooms.  Work also includes new flooring in the two main community spaces. The Center will re-open sometime in September. The estimated cost of this project is $1.1M.  The Water main on Wabash has been installed and work is currently in progress on Kinsey.  This project cost $1.5M  The full street reconstruction of Wardman (between Myron and Colvin) is also underway.  This project includes new water, storm and water lines, new curbs and sidewalks and repaving.  This project will cost approximately $2.5M.  The Wilber Sidewalk project started this month and includes work between Kenmore Avenue and Hoover as well as sidewalks in and around the Community Center.

While we appreciate that these projects present some inconvenience, we hope you'll "excuse our dust" knowing that each of these projects shows your tax dollars being used to improve Kenmore.

January, 2019.  The Village of Kenmore is currently advertising for bids for a capital project involving the Kenmore Community Center, located at 135 Wilber.  This project involves renovations to the Center, including a new roof, new energy-efficient windows, some new flooring, new heating and cooling, and new bathrooms.  The estimated cost for Phase I of this project is $1.1M.  Funding for this project comes from a borrowing and from a $500,000 grant secured through NYS Assemblyman Robin Schimminger.  Due to the extensive work involved, the Center will be closed throughout construction.  Programs that take place at the Center will be relocated.  Work will begin in the Spring.

November 9, 2018.  This Veteran's Day, 11/11/18 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.  Previously called Armistice Day, this date was declared a National Holiday to remember the veterans who fought in WWI, also known as the Great War, or the War to End All Wars.  To mark this 100th anniversary, Bells of Peace has been established as a nationwide program.  At 11 AM bells will be ringing to honor the 116,516 Americans that died in WWI and to honor all of our veterans. The Village will be conducting the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on the Municipal Green on Sunday, 11/11 at 11 AM.  This ceremony in coordinated by the Harry E. Crosby Post #2472 and the American Legion Milton J. Brounshidle Post #205.  Please join us in honoring all of our veterans, past and present.   For more information on Bells of Peace commission:  https://www.worldwar1centennial.org/commemorate/event-map-system/bells-of-peace-a-world-war-i-remembrance.html

October 5, 2018.  NYS Senator Chris Jacobs announced that he has secured $300,000 in the State budget for the Village.  This funding will be used for a sewer lining project on Warren, Euclid and Parkwood, between Myron and Delaware Avenue.  Mayor Mang, in extending his thanks to Senator Jacobs, noted that he and the Board are committed to improving the Village's infrastructure and that sewer linings eliminate leaks in the sewer lines and prevent infiltration.  The Village, in the last few years, has lined almost 5 miles of its sewer lines.  Sewer linings have been used because they are less expensive and, because they are trenchless (the street doesn't have to be excavated to access the pipe), there is little disruption to the residents.  Instead of replacing the existing pipe, a flexible liner is placed into the sewer.  The liner is expanded to fit tightly to and adhere to the sewer wall.  As a result the pipe is free of breaks and cracks and will have a useful life for as much as 100 years. The Village is most grateful to Senator Jacobs for his help in securing funding for these important infrastructure upgrades.
