Keanu Reeves was recently in Kenmore shooting his latest film, “Henry’s Crime”. Reeves is starring and producing the independent film, which is due out in 2010. The action film was shot in Buffalo and in Niagara Falls, but a key scene to the movie was shot inside the Jinlan Restaurant on Delaware Avenue and Parkwood.
Film crews set up trailers filled with equipment, props, costumes, and dressing rooms on Parkwood Avenue. Shooting began around 11:30 AM and finished around 7 PM. The Kenmore Police were on site for traffic and crowd control. Many Kenmore residents were treated to an impromptu surprise when Mr. Reeves came out from the shoot to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the crowd gathered outside the restaurant.
Earlier, Mr. Reeves met with Mayor Mang, Mayor Brown and representatives from Niagara Falls for a press conference. Mayor Mang presented Mr. Reeves, co-producer LeMore Syvan and director Malcolm Venville with Kenmore knit caps which were worn by the three during shooting, much of which took place outside.
The Village was thrilled to be a part of the movie and wishes to extend thanks to Buffalo Niagara Film Commissioner Tim Clark for his assistance. PHOTO GALLERY

The American Planning Association has named the Village of Kenmore as “One of the Top 10 Great Neighborhoods” in the United States for 2009 as part of its Great Places in America Program. The program recognizes 10 communities throughout the country for exceptional character and planning. Kenmore was singled out for its historic architecture, walk-able design, accessibility, functionality, the commitment of its government officials, and for its community involvement. The Village, which recently celebrated its 110th anniversary of incorporation, is also one the Country’s 100 most dense urban areas, according to the 2000 census. “We are thrilled to be named one of the Top 10 Great Neighborhoods for 2009. Everyone who lives and works in Kenmore knows what a special place this is,” stated Mayor Patrick Mang. “Kenmore has so much to offer – beautiful homes, a strong business district, excellent public safety and emergency services – but its greatest asset is its people and the strong sense of community you find here,” said Trustee Paul Catalano. APA Chief Executive Officer Paul Farmer, FAICP noted that “Kenmore shows how valuable and important all of American’s first-ring suburbs are to the metropolitan areas” and that “Kenmore is truly a model worth emulating.” The other communities recognized as Great Neighborhoods for 2009 included Pasadena CA, New Orleans LA, Houston, TX, Newport News VA, Franklin TN, Portland OR, Fargo ND, Lincoln NE and Spokane, WA. A formal presentation will be made on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. on the Municipal Green located at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Delaware Road. All are welcome to attend! |

The Village of Kenmore is launching a new Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents in our area using the latest technology.
Nixle is a new community information service provider built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. Its authenticated service connects municipal agencies and community organizations to residents in real time, delivering information to geographically targeted consumers over their cell phones (via text messages), through e-mails and through Web access.

Police Chief Carl LaCorte is excited to introduce this program to the public. “I have long believed that the highest standard for public safety is achieved when the police and the community work together. This program will allow us to better facilitate this partnership.”
For now, Kenmore residents will be able to receive police-related information and municipal government information via Nixle. Channels providing other kinds of information are expected to be introduced in the future.
Craig Mitnick, the founder and CEO of Nixle, said Nixle differs from current services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, which provide unauthenticated platforms for connections. Nixle solves that problem by providing a single standardized service for consumers to receive immediate and credible neighborhood-level public safety and community information.
For more information, please contact the Kenmore Police Department at (716) 875-1234.
